Last Christmas morning a dear friend of mine, Eghes Eyieyien, passed on to glory – after a very brief illness.
I met Eghes at the University of Benin in Nigeria. We were members of the Christian Union (now NIFES Uniben) so we got to see a lot of each other along with other brethren. Up till a week before his death, we still chatted as usual on Facebook about anything and everything.
Eghes was one of those who never needed to tell you they are Christians. You will know from his character, what he said and how he did it. He will not do anything to compromise his faith or his integrity. He carried this attitude over to his business at Pharez Ltd where both his staff and his clients can testify to his integrity in carrying out his business.
Here is something i’ll like you to consider: Less than two hours before his departutre from this life, Eghes wrote his final post on Facebook as shown below:
“I hear in my spirit the Words
* An Unusual Christmas Day;
*An Uncommon Day;
*Conclusiveness, Unmistakable Proofs
…..to the person who can believe GOD.
It was as if he knew it was time to go on to the eternity. It was like putting full-stop to all his assignments on earth. I have known Eghes to be a hard-worker who is ready for the rest and reward just like Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 4:7-8:
“ I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.“
- How many of us can say that?
- Are we actually carrying our the purpose of God for our lives on earth?
- Will we know when we have finished?
- Will we be ready to go by then or the cares of this world would be holding us hostage?
Eghes has run his race and has finished his course. Are you running yours according to the rules or you’re just making up the rules as you go along. One day each of us will answer the call to give account to God for our lives. Will you be ready?
My friend’s passing has re-ignited a new fire in me: No more hold back – No More Excuses.
I am in a race; i have an assignment which must be completed before i go Home.
Rest In Peace my dear friend.
